From September 15 through October 15, DPS will be joining in local and national celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month and will feature how our students are learning about, connecting with, interpreting and celebrating this cultural moment through their writing, artwork, music, photos, and videos. They will share submissions on the DPS website and social media channels at the end of the celebration. Submitted content may be screened for a focus on highlighting the moment and grounding in our vision of equity, inclusion, and belonging for all students and community. Please email your submissions to DPSEquity@dpsk12.org by October 1st for consideration.

We had 4 positive cases of COVID at Valdez this week. The appropriate classes and grade levels have been notified directly. Three of the cases are in the same family and one is a separate case. This is not an outbreak and we are not seeing the spread through school. Please keep a close eye on your child(ren) and should they have any symptoms keep them home and notify the front office. Thank you all for your support in keeping our kids healthy and in school. We will continue to notify you should we have any more positive cases.
Tuvimos 4 casos positivos de COVID en Valdez esta semana. Las clases apropiadas y los niveles de grado han sido notificados directamente. Tres de los casos pertenecen a la misma familia y uno es un caso separado. Esto no es un brote y no estamos viendo la propagación a través de la escuela. Por favor, vigile de cerca a su (s) hijo (s) y si tienen algún síntoma, manténgalos en casa y notifique a la oficina principal. The first online sale of our Valdez T-shirts and sweatshirts closed on August 30th. There has been a slight delay due to nationwide shortages in materials, but we expect orders to be delivered to the school on Friday, October 8th. We’ll keep you updated of any changes. Orders placed after the 8/30 deadline will arrive a little later and will be sent home in student’s backpacks.
La primera venta online de nuestras camisetas y sudaderas Valdez se cerró el 30 de agosto. Valdez forms and maintains a Collaborative School Committee (CSC) each year. The responsibilities of the CSC include oversight of the school budget, analysis of the school’s Unified Improvement Plan (UIP), and providing guidance in big picture decisions for Valdez. More information and last week’s CSC minutes can be found here (under the Family Resources tab on our website: valdez.dpsk12.org).
We meet about once a month at 3:30pm after school. During budget season (January/early February) we meet more often. We currently have spots open for family representatives. Members serve for 2 years on the committee. We balance our membership to reflect the language demographics of our student population as well as representation across grade levels. If you are interested in becoming a member, please send an email including information about yourself and why you are interested in being on CSC to jessica_buckley@dpsk12.org.
Valdez forma y mantiene un Comité Escolar Colaborativo (CSC) cada año. Las responsabilidades del CSC incluyen la supervisión del presupuesto de la escuela, el análisis del Plan de Mejoramiento Unificado de la escuela (UIP) y brindar orientación en las decisiones generales para Valdez. Nos reunimos aproximadamente una vez al mes a las 3:30 pm después de la escuela. Durante la temporada de presupuesto (enero / principios de febrero) nos reunimos con más frecuencia. Would you like to play soccer? Now you have the opportunity to practice this beautiful sport with your school friends. Valdez is offering this great opportunity for all students from Kinder to 5th grade. Practices will take place Wednesdays and Fridays, starting on Wednesday, Oct 6th. We will have a snack from 3:15 to 3:30 pm., and practice from 3:30 to 4:30 pm., on the field. To register, parents have to send an email to Jessica_Dominguez@dpsk12.org or call the school’s main office: 720-424-3310.

La escuela Valdez está ofreciendo esta gran oprtunidad para todos los etudiantes de Kinder a 5to grado. Las practicas serán todos los miércoles y viernes, dando comienzo el miércoles 6 de Octubre. Tendremos una merienda de 3:15 a 3:30 pm., y practicaremos de 3:30 a 4:30 pm., reuniendonos en el campo de la escuela.
