K-5 Field Day is around the corner and you are all invited on Monday, May 23rd. Please feel free to follow your children around through stations and help as needed. Field day will run from 9:00-11:30am for K-2nd and 12:30 to 3:00pm for 3rd-5th. Importantly, all students are expected to return to their classrooms at 3:00 to follow regular dismissal time at 3:15pm.
On this day students are not expected to wear uniforms; they should wear outdoor clothing instead (no sandals). We also recommend you send them with a small bottle of sunscreen to use before heading out (talk to your teacher if you need us to help with sunscreen application or need to borrow from someone else).
Extra volunteers are needed for the water station, set up and clean up. If you are free to do any of that, please email Ms. D at Jdicker@dpsk12.net.
El día de campo K-5 ya viene y todos están invitados el lunes 23 de mayo. Siéntase libre de seguir a sus hijos a través de las estaciones y ayudar según sea necesario. El día de campo será de 9:00 a 11:30 a.m. para K-2° y de 12:30 a 3:00 p.m. para 3° a 5°. ECE is having field day on Friday, May 27th from 9:45 to 11:45am. Parents are invited to come hang out and help run the stations. We have sunblock in our rooms and water bottles for students.

If you want to share a special talent or skill that you have, let your teachers know right away and send all videos to them. My name is Magaly Marquez and starting in the 2022-23 school year I will be one of the ECE teachers. I was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and have lived in Denver since I was 5 years old. I have 2 sisters and 1 brother. One of my sisters is my twin. In my free time I enjoy bowling, going to the movies, strolling through parks and traveling during the summer.
Ever since I was young I have been passionate about working with young children. I have an Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. In the near future I would also like to obtain my Master’s Degree. For the past 3 years I have worked with children in ECE through 4th grade providing formal instruction, and math and literacy intervention. I am very excited to start the school year and be able to help your children learn as much as they can.
Mi nombre es Magaly Marquez y a partir del año escolar 2022-23 seré una de las maestras de ECE. Nací en Chihuahua, México y resido en Denver desde los 5 años. Tengo 2 hermanas y 1 hermano. Una de ellas es mi hermana gemela. En mi tiempo libre me gusta ir al boliche, ir al cine, pasear por los parques y viajar durante el verano.
Desde que era joven me ha apasionado trabajar con niños pequeños. Tengo un asociado y licenciatura en la Educación Temprana. En el futuro también me gustaría obtener mi Maestría. Los últimos 3 años he trabajado con niños en ECE hasta el 4to grado proveyendo instrucción formal e intervención en matemáticas y literatura. Estoy muy emocionada de comenzar el año escolar y poder ayudar a sus hijos a aprender lo más que puedan.
Students will NOT be taking devices home for the summer this year.
Only students moving on to a DPS middle school or students transferring to another DPS school will be taking their devices with them to their next school.
On Tuesday May 31st, we will be collecting MyTech Chromebooks and chargers for students who are leaving the district or moving on to a charter school. Please notify the office as soon as possible if your student will not be returning to Valdez next year: if you are transferring to a different DPS school, transferring out of the district or to a charter school. This will ensure that we are collecting devices from the appropriate students, and students that are moving have their devices.
Please make sure that you have your Chromebook and charger that day, if they have taken it home. Please make sure that it is clean and all stickers or other personal decorations have been removed.
You will need to return the following things. The fees for not returning an item are listed to the right. If there is writing, stickers, or other intentional damage on the device, you will be charged a damage fee of $25.

Wow… can’t believe it’s already time to start wrapping up library book checkouts! The week of May 9th will be the last week that classes will check out books from the library.
ALL library books must be returned by May 20th.
Overdue notices will be emailed to families for non-returned books the next couple of weeks. If your student has lost any books please contact Mrs. Meza to make arrangements for replacement.

Summer of Sora is the DPS summer reading program to encourage students to enjoy our digital library of over 35,000 eBooks and audiobooks all summer long. Beginning June 6th and for ten weeks ending August 12th, every Sora eBook or audiobook checkout is a chance for students to win prizes. Every week 10 students will win an Under Armour sackpack and book, for a total of 100 WINNERS! And three grand prize winners will receive Kindle e-readers! The Chaos Bloom Theater’s goal is to provide a safe no-judgement active place to create, collaborate and cheer on others as a group so that all succeed. Kids will learn how to tap into face-to-face interactions and play so that they have social skills for life.
