Please feel free to follow your children around through stations and help as needed. Field day will run from 9:00-11:30am for K-2nd and 12:30 to 3:00pm for 3rd-5th. Importantly, all students are expected to return to their classrooms at 3:00 to follow regular dismissal time at 3:15pm.
On this day students are not expected to wear uniforms; they should wear outdoor clothing instead (no sandals). We also recommend you send them with a small bottle of sunscreen to use before heading out (talk to your teacher if you need us to help with sunscreen application or need to borrow from someone else).
Extra volunteers are needed for the water station, set up and clean up. If you are free to do any of that, please email Ms. D at Jdicker@dpsk12.net.

The last two years have imposed significant challenges for the educational system. In an effort to hear your suggestions and know better what is working and what can be improved in our school the Culture and Equity Committee conducted a survey last Spring 2021. In the last year we have worked on making changes based on this feedback. Ask your 2nd or 5th grader this weekend if they have a Lexia account. If they do and you have a computer or iPad, try it this weekend. If it doesn’t work, you can ask Ms. Katie (Shively) or your teacher to help you next week, so you are ready to go for summer. Lexia helps with reading and spelling in English. (not all students need that). Students should do about 20 minutes about 2 times a week over the summer.
Este fin de semana, pregunta a tu hijo/s de segundo a quinto grado, si tiene Lexia. Si tiene y cuenta con su computadora o iPad, trata de que lo use este fin de semana. Si no sirve, ellos pueden preguntarle a Ms. Katie o a su maesta la próxima semana, para que así, puedan ayudarlos y estén listos para usarlo en el verano. Lexia ayuda con lectura y ortografía en inglés. (no todos los estudiantes necesitan eso). Los estudiantes deberían usar Lexia cerca de 20 minutos 2 veces por semana durante el verano.
It is that time of year again! All medications must go!
Please make arrangements with the school nurse to pick up all medications/medical equipment that was brought to the health office to support your child’s health during the school year. All medications must be picked up by an adult and are not permitted to be sent home with your child.
If your child is participating in a summer program: Medication will NOT automatically be transferred to the summer school program. All medication must be picked up by parent/guardian and given to the site on the first day of the summer program.
*IF ARRANGEMENTS HAVE NOT BEEN MADE FOR MEDICATION PICK-UP, ALL REMAINING MEDICATIONS WILL BE DISPOSED OF ON THE FOLLOWING DATE: Friday June 3, 2022.

Students will NOT be taking devices home for the summer this year.
Only students moving on to a DPS middle school or students transferring to another DPS school will be taking their devices with them to their next school.
On Tuesday May 31st, we will be collecting MyTech Chromebooks and chargers for students who are leaving the district or moving on to a charter school. Please notify the office as soon as possible if your student will not be returning to Valdez next year: if you are transferring to a different DPS school, transferring out of the district or to a charter school. This will ensure that we are collecting devices from the appropriate students, and students that are moving have their devices.
Please make sure that you have your Chromebook and charger that day, if they have taken it home. Please make sure that it is clean and all stickers or other personal decorations have been removed.
You will need to return the following things. The fees for not returning an item are listed to the right. If there is writing, stickers, or other intentional damage on the device, you will be charged a damage fee of $25.

Summer of Sora is the DPS summer reading program to encourage students to enjoy our digital library of over 35,000 eBooks and audiobooks all summer long. Beginning June 6th and for ten weeks ending August 12th, every Sora eBook or audiobook checkout is a chance for students to win prizes.
