It’s the time of year when we celebrate a variety of holidays with our community and our students. We try to be mindful of the multiple holidays our students and our families may celebrate, and if we teach about holidays, we ground in who our students are and what they celebrate—as well as other cultures and traditions that may not be represented in our school. Here is a resource that we share with our teachers that asks great questions about what we are teaching and here is 20 Celebrations this Holiday Season besides Christmas that we use in our planning. Please reach out to your teachers or school leadership if you have traditions you would like to share and ideas in how we can celebrate the season with all of our students. We will feature here photos of what is happening across the school in December.
Es la época del año en la que celebramos una variedad de días festivos con nuestra comunidad y nuestros estudiantes. Tratamos de tener en cuenta las múltiples festividades que nuestros estudiantes y nuestras familias pueden celebrar, y si enseñamos sobre las festividades, nos basamos en quiénes son nuestros estudiantes y qué celebran, así como otras culturas y tradiciones que pueden no estar representadas en nuestra escuela. This committee meets monthly to determine big picture decisions for Valdez, including the school budget. During this meeting we will look at student numbers to begin the budget process for next school year. We will have follow-up meetings in January and February. The completed budget is due in February.

Sign up today to take Valdez’s tamale-making class on 12/8 with your kids (and go home with a dozen tamales for an easy dinner night!). Kids are free! In lieu of a PTO meeting on December 14th, we will be meeting at Raices Brewing Co. for a parent happy hour starting at 5:30pm.

Child care will be available for all students for an additional cost from Discovery Link staff. (Students do not have to be DL students to use this child care. We will send a sign-up sheet next week.)
