Beginning in 2023, most DPS schools will have new bell times that align with the Board of Education’s Healthy Start Times (HST) resolution. The resolution calls for middle schools and high schools to start no earlier than 8:20 a.m. each school day to support healthy sleep habits in adolescents. To accommodate this change, elementary, middle and high school bell times need to be modified.
Currently, DPS is saying that Valdez will start school at 7:40am and end at 2:40pm for the 2023-24 school year. We have given feedback to the district that we do not want our schedule to change. We have one bus which means that we have to be a part of the district transportation schedule. We are exploring if there are other options for this bus.
Our goal is to gather information on how this change will impact our families. We want to understand if this new schedule is a support for families or a barrier, and what the challenges may be for all of our families. Please fill out this short survey: English Spanish
A partir de 2023, la mayoría de las escuelas de DPS tendrán nuevos horarios de campana que se alinean con la resolución Healthy Start Times (HST) de la Junta de Educación. The Valdez Winter Market will be held this Saturday, December 10th from 11:00am to 4:00pm. Come and see the student choir, student art on display, and support student booths and local vendors.
The Aplausos Choir will be performing at 11am in the auditorium!

It’s the time of year when we celebrate a variety of holidays with our community and our students. We try to be mindful of the multiple holidays our students and our families may celebrate, and if we teach about holidays, we ground in who our students are and what they celebrate—as well as other cultures and traditions that may not be represented in our school. Here is a resource that we share with our teachers that asks great questions about what we are teaching and here is 20 Celebrations this Holiday Season besides Christmas that we use in our planning. Please reach out to your teachers or school leadership if you have traditions you would like to share and ideas in how we can celebrate the season with all of our students. We will feature here photos of what is happening across the school in December.

The golf program, First Tee, is back the week of Dec. 12th! The program is free and is for 3rd and 5th graders. They will be participating during PE. Permission slips have been sent home. If you need another, please let Ms. D know.
