Winter Break Resource Guide

  • DPS’ Family and Community Engagement (FACE) team has compiled a comprehensive list of meals, housing, mental health and other resources to share with students and families in English and Spanish.
  • Meals: In addition to the food banks listed in the FACE resource guide, the City and County’s Office of Children Affairs is offering a free supper and/or snack at any Tasty Food site for youth (ages 5-18) across Denver during the holiday break! No registration or ID is required — students can simply drop by and enjoy a nutritious meal! Check the schedule flier (in English and Spanish) for more information. Details on holiday schedule changes and planned holiday closures will be available on the Tasty Food website.
  • Supporting our Newcomers: Our Multilingual Education department organized a New Arrivals Toolkit supporting our new-to-country and newcomer students.

In-School Immunization Program Clinic

Valdez Elementary is partnering with the Immunization and Travel Clinic at Denver Health to offer in-school immunizations to students at Denver Public Schools in order to ensure students have a healthy school year. 

Next in-school immunization clinic date: January 24th 

About the In-School Immunization Program: 

  • One signed consent form allows your child to participate in any In-School Immunization Program clinic during the current school year.
  • If you have completed and returned a consent form, your child will receive any vaccines that they are eligible for on this date, including flu and COVID vaccines, unless any specific vaccines were declined on the consent form. Please make sure the school nurse has your child’s most up-to-date immunization record.
  • There will be multiple immunization clinics at your child’s school this 2023-2024 school year, and if you have returned a completed consent form and your child is not vaccinated on January 24th, they can be vaccinated at a future clinic date. 
  • Please make sure your child has eaten breakfast before coming to school on the clinic date.
  • If you have signed a consent form, but no longer want to participate in the immunization program, please contact the school nurse or Denver’s In-School Immunization Program main line at (303) 602-3639.

Valdez needs uniforms! / ¡Valdez necesita uniformes!

We need uniforms for all grades and sizes, ECE through 5th! Please bring your new uniform donations or used uniforms in good condition to the front office. Thank you!!!

Family Support – how you can help

Thank you for all of your support for our newcomer families. Our families are still in need of the following:

  • Housing: Apartments, rooms, etc for rent that do not require a social security number. Temporary housing that is free while they save for rent, etc.
  • Legal Advice: Support in seeking TPS and filing paperwork.
  • RTD bus passes, gift cards to Walmart, Safeway, and King Soopers.

DPS families now have the opportunity to save time by letting us know that your student or students are going to be arriving late, leaving early, or absent. Starting this 2023-24 school year, you will be able to use your computer or smartphone to let your school know about absences so you can focus on taking care of your child.
