This month, we are celebrating Arab American Heritage Month! April has been recognized as Arab American Heritage Month since 1995 as a way to honor and showcase the significant impact Arab Americans have made on our nation’s society and culture.
The term “Arab” encompasses a cultural and linguistic identity, uniting Arab Americans through their common language, Arabic, and shared history and culture. Arab Americans have roots in over 22 countries. More than 42,000 people in Colorado have Arab heritage, mostly from Somalia, Iraq, Sudan, Morocco and Jordan. In Denver alone, nearly 7,200 people have Arab roots and over 3,000 households in Denver County reported speaking Arabic at home in 2019.
Arab Americans are a crucial part of our school communities. Recognizing this month is just one way to celebrate their rich heritage and numerous contributions to our world. Together, we can foster a sense of pride and belonging among Arab American individuals and communities while dispelling stereotypes and biases and promoting positive representation.

¡Este mes celebramos el Mes de la Herencia Árabe Americana! Abril ha sido reconocido como el Mes de la Herencia Árabe Estadounidense desde 1995 como una forma de honrar y mostrar el impacto significativo que los árabes estadounidenses han tenido en la sociedad y la cultura de nuestra nación.
El término “árabe” abarca una identidad cultural y lingüística que une a los árabes americanos a través de su lengua común, el árabe, y su historia y cultura compartidas. Los árabes estadounidenses tienen raíces en más de 22 países. Más de 42.000 personas en Colorado tienen ascendencia árabe, en su mayoría de Somalia, Irak, Sudán, Marruecos y Jordania. Valdez Vision and Hearing Screenings
Valdez Elementary is conducting school wide vision and hearing screenings on Monday 4/29, Tuesday 4/30, and Wednesday 5/1. Please have your student present on these days. You must email the school nurse at renee_cesario@dpsk12.net if you would NOT like your student to participate. Otherwise all students will be screened.
Immunization Clinic at Valdez
Mark your calendars! We will be having another on-site immunization clinic at Valdez on Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7. Consent forms will be sent out sometime in the next two weeks.

The CO Virtual TPS Project helps eligible people secure Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), which enable them to work legally and remain in the US temporarily without threat of removal. You can learn more about the project here.
This project, supported by the Rose Community Foundation, state and federal agencies, and other nonprofits and legal providers, provides free immigration services to migrants from Venezuela and other eligible countries. As a part of the project, clients attend Signing Days, where they review application materials and, with support from USCIS, complete their biometric documentation and file their applications in an expedited manner.
