School Dismissal is 3:10pm. There are no more enrichment classes this year. If you are late, you need to make other arrangements for your child(ren). We charge $1 per minute per child left in the office starting at 3:25pm. Thank you for your support in caring for all of our students!

All moms, grandmothers, aunts, important adults in your child’s life are invited to be honored and celebrate Mother’s Day with us! Kinder and 4th grade will be performing during this Valdez tradition that celebrates all the women in our community. There will be student speakers from each class and all students will sing one song together. Please plan to drop off your student in the morning as usual and then proceed to the auditorium to be seated for the concert.
Auditorium doors open at 8:10am, extremely limited seating available. Program begins at 8:25am.

We would not be able to run any of our events throughout the school year if it wasn’t for our incredible volunteers! K-5 Field Day is next Friday, May 17th, and all are invited. Please feel free to follow your children around through stations and help as needed.
Field day will run from 9:00-11:00am for K-2nd and 1:00 to 3:00pm for 3rd-5th. All students are expected to return to their classrooms at 3:00 to follow regular dismissal time at 3:10 pm.
Students are expected to wear school Power shirts, fun run shirts or uniforms, as it is a regular school day. They should wear outdoor shoes/shorts/pants (no sandals). It is school spirit day and students may wear crazy socks or have crazy hair/hats if they wish. We also recommend you send them with a small bottle of sunscreen to use before heading out.
Extra volunteers are needed for the stations. Please sign up here If you are free to volunteer at a station. Please email Ms. D at Jdicker@dpsk12.net if you have any questions. Thank you and I’m looking forward to a day of FUN!
El día de campo K-5 será el próximo viernes 17 de mayo y todos están invitados. Siéntase libre de seguir a sus hijos a través de las estaciones y ayudarlos según sea necesario.
El día de campo se desarrollará de 9:00 a 11:00 a.m. para K-2º y de 1:00 a 3:00 p.m. para 3º a 5º. Se espera que todos los estudiantes regresen a sus aulas a las 3:00 para seguir el horario de salida habitual a las 3:10 p.m.
Se espera que los estudiantes usen camisetas Power de la escuela, camisetas o uniformes para carreras divertidas, ya que es un día escolar normal. Deben usar zapatos/pantalones cortos/pantalones cortos (no sandalias). Es el día del espíritu escolar y los estudiantes pueden usar calcetines locos o tener cabello/sombreros locos si así lo desean. También te recomendamos enviarlos con un bote pequeño de protector solar para usar antes de salir.

Please check the lost and found for any coats or other missing items. We will schedule a donation pickup for all remaining coats on May 30th, so please claim them before then. There are 2 lost and found bins, one located outside the north gym door and one located outside the south/east gym door.

We need help! We will continue our talent show tradition once again this year. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents across the arts, sports, or whatever their hearts desire. We encourage students to work together and we will showcase about 5 acts per grade level in the show. We need parent volunteers to help put the show together; we hope many of you can help.

Last day of our Eco-Explorers enrichment was last week, we celebrated with an “almost zero waste” party, with reusable plates, snacks packed in reusable containers and the compost bin inside the room for the food waste. Some families joined and it was so much fun!
Even though enrichment is over, we hope for the club to still be active and keeping our School engaged in sustainable practices! One example was at the Día del niño Carnival last Saturday! The Eco-explorers had “waste stations” with the purpose of diverting materials away from the landfill. We had a compostable bin, a recyclable bin, the reusable cups & plate bin and the special wrappers bin! It was amazing to see how they were educating families and how much materials were able to get recycled and composted! Kids were very proud!! And some families learned about recyclable materials.
Keep your eyes open for the “waste stations” in the future community events! And don’t forget to: Rethink before throwing something away! (That is one of the R’s we learned in the club!!!)
El último día de Enriquecimiento del club de los Eco-Exploradores fue la semana pasada, tuvimos una celebración n al estilo “basura cero” con platos reusables, snacks comprados en frascos reusables y con el bote de composta en el salon para los desperdicios de comida, ¡fue increíble!
Aunque el programa de enriquecimiento se acabó, esperamos que el Club siga activo e involucrando a la Escuela en practicas sostenibles. Un ejemplo de esto fue en el Carnaval del dia del niño el sábado pasado! Los Eco-Exploradores fueron lideres en la separación de basura! Teníamos unas “estaciones” donde estaban los diferentes botes para separar los desperdicios: el de reciclaje, el de composta, el de los platos reusables, el de los envoltorios de snacks y el de la basura. Fue increíble ver a nuestros eco-exploradores en acción enseñándole a las familias en donde botar sus desperdicios. Algunas personas aprendieron acerca de los diferentes materiales que se pueden reciclar.
Manténganse atento a las “estaciones de basura” de los próximos eventos comunitarios de la escuela! Y no se olvide de REpensar antes de botar algo! (Es una de las 7 R’s que aprendimos en el club!)
On Tuesday, the DPS Citywide Elementary School Art Show held a reception and awards ceremony at the Denver Art Museum. Ms. Meza and several Valdez students attended, representing the ten Valdez students who were selected to participate. See the Citywide Art Show through May 16th at DAM.

The Northwest Community Hub @ Colfax will have the Denver Health Mobile clinic onsite 2 more dates in May. They want to share this opportunity with Valdez families.

The mobile unit can see ages 2 and up for: General Care and Physical Visit, Preventative and Cancer Screening, Cardiovascular Diseases (stable CVD), Lung Diseases, Urinary Diseases, Behavioral and more. They can set up prescriptions to be picked up at a preferred pharmacy. Patients can be uninsured, underinsured and insured.

CherryArts “Art Sustains Us” Art Camp
It’s time to get creative, join us for an amazing one-week summer art camp! CherryArts is hosting this interactive art experience in partnership with nationally renowned artist, Pat Milbery. Participants get to explore their own creativity while developing new artistic skills involving printmaking, painting and sculpture.
The collaborative artwork will be showcased at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and then becomes a part of the CherryArts Mobile Art Gallery traveling to schools and communities throughout the Denver metro area. At camp, students will also create individual artwork and explore creating sustainable artwork on an individual and collaborative level.

Es hora de ser creativos, ¡únete a nosotros en un increíble campamento de arte de verano de una semana!
