Panther Fun Run: A Huge Success!

What a day, Valdez! Our annual Panther Fun Run was full of energy, smiles, school spirit, and an incredible display of community support. We are so grateful to our students, families, teachers, staff, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this year’s event such a success!

Together, our Valdez community raised an incredible $54,983! That includes $46,733 raised through the Panther Fun Run, plus an additional $8,250 generously contributed by our donors and sponsors. Every lap, cheer, donation, volunteer hour, and word shared helped make a difference for our Panthers.

The funds raised will help provide teacher classroom funds, student enrichment opportunities, and school-wide events and celebrations throughout the year. Thanks to our community, these funds help create more opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and celebrate together.

We are so lucky to have a community that shows up for our Panthers! Thank you for making the Panther Fun Run so much fun and for supporting our students and teachers. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Be sure to check out the sponsor logos below and show some love to these local businesses that gave back to our kids.

First Grade Author Visit

On Tuesday, we hosted our first author visit of the school year in the library, with Derek Munson, the author of Enemy Pie. It’s a charming picture book about a boy who ultimately befriends his enemy after first attempting to get rid of him for good by making an enemy pie with his dad.

Mr. Munson came and read to both 1st grade classes, and we also had a Spanish reader for a bilingual story time. After the story the author made enemy pies with the help of our students. The students were amazing participants and listeners! Mr. Munson also signed and gifted books for each classroom and the library.

The visit was a part of Conflict & Resolution Month in Colorado, inspiring Coloradans to use constructive methods to solve problems. Every year they choose an annual book, and this year it was a children’s book, lucky us!

Thanks to our new library tech, Ms. Andrea, for arranging this author visit!

We conducted our monthly fire drill on Tuesday, September 29th. All students evacuated the building calmly and in an orderly manner. We will have fire drills once a month as required by DPS.

On Wednesday, September 30th, we conducted safety drill training with the DPS Department of Safety. This special training happens twice a year. All students and staff practiced a school “LOCKDOWN” with doors locked, lights off, and everyone out of sight, a “HOLD” drill with classroom doors locked, but classroom business going on as normal, and a “secure perimeter” drill with outside building doors locked.

We appreciate your support of our drill practices. Our number one priority is always the safety of everyone in the building. More information about drills can be found here.
