Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as “Gay Pride Day,” but the actual day was flexible. In major cities across the nation the “day” soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. Memorials are held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.

El Mes del Orgullo de Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales, Transgénero, Queer, Intersexuales y Asexuales (LGBTQIA+) se celebra actualmente cada año en el mes de junio para honrar el Levantamiento de Stonewall de 1969 en Manhattan. El levantamiento de Stonewall fue un punto de inflexión para el Movimiento de Liberación Gay en los Estados Unidos. En los Estados Unidos, el último domingo de junio se celebraba inicialmente como el “Día del Orgullo Gay”, pero el día real era flexible. En las principales ciudades de todo el país, el “día” pronto creció para abarcar una serie de eventos de un mes de duración. This summer, all children 18 and younger are eligible for free weekday meals at any of the following locations. Adults can purchase breakfast for $3.00 and lunch for $4.50. Blackjack Pizza is served for lunch every Wednesday.

The last two years have imposed significant challenges for the educational system. In an effort to hear your suggestions and know better what is working and what can be improved in our school the Culture and Equity Committee conducted a survey last Spring 2021. In the last year we have worked on making changes based on this feedback. Please find infographics with the summary of the results of the survey and some of the responses implemented by Valdez here and here.

Students will NOT be taking devices home for the summer this year.
Only students moving on to a DPS middle school or students transferring to another DPS school will be taking their devices with them to their next school.
MyTech Chromebooks and chargers are now being collected for students who are leaving the district or moving on to a charter school. Please notify the office as soon as possible if your student will not be returning to Valdez next year: if you are transferring to a different DPS school, transferring out of the district or to a charter school. This will ensure that we are collecting devices from the appropriate students, and students that are moving have their devices.
Please make sure that you have your Chromebook and charger that day, if they have taken it home. Please make sure that it is clean and all stickers or other personal decorations have been removed.
You will need to return the following things. The fees for not returning an item are listed to the right. If there is writing, stickers, or other intentional damage on the device, you will be charged a damage fee of $25.

Summer of Sora is the DPS summer reading program to encourage students to enjoy our digital library of over 35,000 eBooks and audiobooks all summer long. Beginning June 6th and for ten weeks ending August 12th, every Sora eBook or audiobook checkout is a chance for students to win prizes. Every week 10 students will win an Under Armour sackpack and book, for a total of 100 WINNERS! And three grand prize winners will receive Kindle e-readers!
