This year, DPS is excited to celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month! May was designated as Jewish American Heritage Month by Congressional resolution and Presidential proclamation in 2006 as a way to honor and celebrate the contributions of Jewish Americans. It is a time to explore the Jewish experience and achievements of Jewish people and the antisemitism that has been faced by Jewish people throughout history.
The Jewish community contains a variety of ethnicities and nationalities. In fact, the Greater Denver Area Jewish community includes around 90,000 individuals who identify as Jewish through birth, adoption, marriage/partnership and conversion. Some are connected to their Jewish identity through religious faith and practice, while others identify as Jewish through a connection to their heritage and culture.
Celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month can help students and families feel seen, heard and valued. In supporting our students, we can foster a sense of pride and belonging among Jewish American individuals and communities while dispelling stereotypes and biases and promoting positive representation.

¡Este año, DPS se complace en celebrar el Mes de la Herencia Judía Estadounidense! Mayo fue designado Mes de la Herencia Judía Estadounidense mediante una resolución del Congreso y una proclamación presidencial en 2006 como una forma de honrar y celebrar las contribuciones de los judíos estadounidenses. Es un momento para explorar la experiencia judía y los logros del pueblo judío y el antisemitismo que ha enfrentado el pueblo judío a lo largo de la historia.
La comunidad judía contiene una variedad de etnias y nacionalidades. Welcome our new 2nd grade teacher, Rebeca Carrión!
I am delighted to be an ELA-S teacher this school year in Valdez School! I have been a teacher for 12 years and also had experience working at the United Nations as an Education officer.
I am from Bilbao, Spain, but I have been lucky to live in Thailand, Panama and Austin, Texas. This year I will be teaching in Denver and I am really happy with the new experience. I have 3 children ages 12, 10 and 5 and they love living in the USA.
I have my Bachelor degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, and I did my Master’s degree in Bilingual Education.
I love music, travelling and cooking with friends.

Soy de Bilbao, España, pero he tenido la suerte de vivir en Tailandia, Panamá y Austin, Texas. Este año seré maestra en Denver y estoy feliz con esta nueva experiencia. Tengo tres hijos de 12, 10 y 5 años y les encanta vivir en USA.
Me gradué en Magisterio de Educación Primaria y de Infantil, posteriormente realice mi Máster en Educación Bilingüe.

ALL STUDENT CHROMEBOOKS, CHARGERS and Hotpots MUST BE TURNED IN by May 31st.
Students will need to fill out a checklist in their classroom, when turning in their devices to ensure the devices are turned in in good condition. Charges will apply for any device not turned in or turned in with damage.
If students that currently have a hotspot at home still need it, they are welcome to keep it as long as they plan on continuing in DPS next school year. If they move to another district or plan to move out of state they must turn in the hotspot and charger. Charges will apply for devices not turned.

Please check the lost and found for any coats or other missing items. We will schedule a donation pickup for all remaining coats on May 30th, so please claim them before then. There are 2 lost and found bins, one located outside the north gym door and one located outside the south/east gym door.

We need help! We will continue our talent show tradition once again this year. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their talents across the arts, sports, or whatever their hearts desire. We encourage students to work together and we will showcase about 5 acts per grade level in the show. We need parent volunteers to help put the show together; we hope many of you can help.

The Northwest Community Hub @ Colfax will have the Denver Health Mobile clinic onsite 2 more dates in May. They want to share this opportunity with Valdez families.
Call, text or email the NW hub for available appointment times.
The mobile unit can see ages 2 and up for: General Care and Physical Visit, Preventative and Cancer Screening, Cardiovascular Diseases (stable CVD), Lung Diseases, Urinary Diseases, Behavioral and more. They can set up prescriptions to be picked up at a preferred pharmacy. Patients can be uninsured, underinsured and insured.

CherryArts “Art Sustains Us” Art Camp
It’s time to get creative, join us for an amazing one-week summer art camp! CherryArts is hosting this interactive art experience in partnership with nationally renowned artist, Pat Milbery. Participants get to explore their own creativity while developing new artistic skills involving printmaking, painting and sculpture.
The collaborative artwork will be showcased at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and then becomes a part of the CherryArts Mobile Art Gallery traveling to schools and communities throughout the Denver metro area. At camp, students will also create individual artwork and explore creating sustainable artwork on an individual and collaborative level.

(No camp on Wed. June 19th in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday)
