Welcome new and returning families! Every week you can expect to receive this newsletter, The “Powerful News,” electronically through email and by text, and it is posted to our website valdez.dpsk12.org. This edition of Powerful News contains all of the information you will need for the start of the school year.

School starts for K-5th on August 14th and ECE students have rolling start dates, beginning on August 18th (see below). Every Friday will be a half day for all ECE students, ending at 12:00pm.

All families (both new and returning students) must log in to the DPS Parent Portal at https://www.dpsk12.org/page/my-portal, go to All Apps > Online Registration, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
Immunization records can be uploaded directly to the portal.
For ECE students, please also remember to submit the following documents:
Additionally, all ECE4 students must be registered in the UPK system. If not registered, families may receive a full tuition charge. If your child is in ECE3 and has an IEP, the UPK application must also be completed.
For new students, we will need to verify their birth certificate in person during the first days of school.
In the case of ECE students, we also need a copy of the birth certificate for our records, due to tuition requirements. All required documents can also be sent to: d_zabaleta-ramirez@dpsk12.net

Snow Cone Social for students and families to meet their teachers and connect with friends: Wednesday, August 13th. Snow cones will be served from 4:00-5:00pm on the back patio. Bring your used uniforms (clean and in good shape) to exchange with other families!
ECE-5th grade Back to School Night: Save the date: Tuesday, August 26th. This is an opportunity to meet your teachers and learn all about grade level happenings and expectations. This is a parent/adult event, it is not meant for students.

DPS is switching to a single two-way communication tool called Thrillshare Rooms. Rooms is replacing all other two-way communication tools and is free to all DPS schools. Families will access Rooms through the new DPS app. With Rooms, families will be able to see classroom announcements and messages from teachers. Instead of juggling conversations through multiple channels like Facebook, email, etc., Rooms funnels all parent-teacher communication into one place. Teachers will directly push messages out to families on a regular basis through Rooms. Rooms is integrated with Infinite Campus, and will pull and update parent contact information directly from the DPS system.
It is extremely important that every student has current and correct parent contact information in our system. Rooms and the DPS app will be officially launched to all staff and families the week of Aug. 11. Please note that the What’s App and Facebook grade level groups are not official forms of school communication. Valdez administration and teachers will use Rooms to send out all school communication.
